What ShedScout is
ShedScout is an editorially independent shed resource hub. Our mission is to be the unbiased, "knowledgeable neighbor" voice in a category that is dominated by manufacturer marketing on one side and thin SEO content on the other. We write deep guides, build free tools, and tell you what we'd tell a friend asking for advice — even when that's inconvenient for the brands we cover.
How we make money
ShedScout is funded by a combination of affiliate relationships, free tools that build our audience, and the long-term goal of becoming the most trusted independent voice in the shed market. We may earn a small commission when readers click through to a brand and buy — at no cost to the reader. Affiliate relationships do not influence which brands we cover, the order in which we present them, or what we say about them. We will continue to publish honest critiques of brands we have affiliate relationships with, and we will continue to recommend brands we have no commercial relationship with whenever they're the right answer.
Our relationship with SolidBuildWood.com
This is the most important disclosure on this page. ShedScout is owned by the same family that owns SolidBuildWood.com. SolidBuild sells European kiln-dried Nordic spruce shed kits, including the modern shed line covered in our Modern & Studio Sheds guide and several mentions across the rest of our coverage.
We disclose this relationship every time we mention SolidBuild in any guide, comparison, or recommendation. We do our best to write about SolidBuild the same way we write about every other brand we cover — naming the strengths, naming the weaknesses, and pointing out where it doesn't fit. SolidBuild is not the right answer for every buyer, and we say so when it isn't.
If you would prefer a totally outside perspective on SolidBuild or any other brand we cover, we encourage you to read independent reviews on Trustpilot, Yelp, the BBB, the r/AlternativeHousing and r/Tinyhouses subreddits, and the dedicated buyer-review threads on each brand's product page. The internet is full of unaffiliated buyers comparing notes, and you should always cross-check our coverage against theirs before making any major purchase.
What we will not do
We will not accept payment for inclusion in a brand round-up. We will not allow brands to review or approve articles before publication. We will not remove honest criticism in exchange for advertising or affiliate revenue. We will not rank brands in an order designed to favor SolidBuild or any other brand we have a relationship with — our rankings are based on the same criteria across the board, and we welcome readers to challenge them.
What we will do
We will tell you when a brand we have a relationship with is not the right fit for you. We will name the brands that beat SolidBuild in specific use cases, and we have done so throughout our coverage — see Studio Shed for design recognition, Modern-Shed for Pacific Northwest design culture, Summerwood for cedar-leaning customer satisfaction, and Allwood for cabin-style kits. We will keep our cost figures, brand listings, and regulatory information up to date, and we will revise articles when we discover errors. We will continue to invest in original research, first-hand product testing, and direct buyer interviews, so that what you read on ShedScout is genuinely informed by reality and not just by other people's blog posts.
Information accuracy
The cost figures, regulatory information, and ROI calculations on ShedScout are drawn from publicly available consumer and trade research, real homeowner project breakdowns, and state and local building code as of early 2026. Building codes change. Permit fees change. Pricing changes. Always verify with your local jurisdiction and with the manufacturer directly before spending money. We are a starting point, not a substitute for professional advice from your local building department, your contractor, or your accountant.
